About Us

Fine Art Donations was founded to connect collectors and estates with museums and streamline the process of donating artwork to institutions. Getting artwork from donor to recipient can prove challenging; many museums are only looking for certain artists or genres, so instead of leaving donors to reach out individually to multiple institutions, we provide a platform where artworks can be posted as available. Museums then have access to these listings, and can likewise streamline their own process of finding available works.

Through our specialized platform, Fine Art Donations seeks to help donors place high quality artwork in the collections of outstanding museums across the country.

Created by members of J.Gold Fine Art, LLC, Douglas and Jeffrey B. Gold, and independent curator-archivist Clanci Jo Conover, Fine Art Donations seeks to simplify the process of donating appreciated fine art, and other items, to public institutions. Now, rather than contacting dozens of institutions in order to secure a new home for a work of art (and presumably a significant tax benefit for the donor), those seeking to donate an item of value need only to fill out a few simple forms, and Fineartdonations.com does the rest, by contacting a proprietary list of appropriate institutions, curators and directors. When an acceptable and willing recipient of a donation is located, Fineartdonations.com will help facilitate the transfer of the work to the institution. All services are billed as set forth on the fee schedule that forms a part of the donor's consignment agreement.

Donors are encouraged to consult with an attorney and/or tax professional of their choosing, and at the request of a donor, Fineartdonations.com will provide the donor with a list of licensed professionals in their area.

Schedule a one-on-one info session with Co-Founder Clanci Jo Conover to learn more about the platform.

Whether you are a curator hoping to expand your museum's collection, a gallerist looking to assist a client or elevate an artist's profile, or a donor wishing to place a fine work of art into an institutional collection, we are here to discuss your unique goals.

How It Works

To utilize our platform, donors are required to complete a consignment agreement for each artwork listed with Fine Art Donations so that we may offer the work to vetted institutions and enter into donation agreements on behalf of the donor. Donors also agree to the following terms:

  • 10% of the appraised value of the work will be paid to Art Donations upon acceptance of a donation by an arts institution for works valuing up to $100,000. For works valued in excess of $100,000, there will be a 5% fee of the appraised value paid to Fine Art Donations.
  • In the case that an artwork is withdrawn or sold by the owner/donor within 6 months of listing, our fee of 10% for works up to $100,000 and 5% for works over $100,000 is still owed for services rendered and must be paid to Fine Art Donations.
  • Donors sign the artwork over to Fine Art Donations at an estimated value, with the condition of offering the artwork to various institutions (subject to appraisal).
  • Donor guarantees that the artwork will be maintained in its present condition at time of listing. Fine Art Donations may facilitate restoration as needed for an additional cost.

Museums agree that any work donated must be held for a minimum of 10 years before it can be deaccessioned from its collection.

We highly recommend consulting an appraiser and/or tax specialist.
