Arthur Ellis was an accomplished British painter of landscapes, figures, portraits and scenes. He trained at the Royal Academy Schools and his works are held in numerous public collections including the British Museum. Ellis was first and foremost a fine draughtsman, studying both at the Royal Academy in London and also in Paris. His skill with a pencil underpinned his success and he was able to master a challenging composition. One of his most famous drawings, ‘A Painter Etcher’, is in the collection of the British Museum.
